The Good, the Bad and the Not Such a Big Deal

Well I had to laugh today…I walked the section (or at least tried to) today with Carissa & all the little kids in tow, plus one extra little one…not long after we started our walk I realized I wasn’t Walking away the pounds with a thankful heart this time.  It was more like “What was I thinking?”

I figure if I’m going to share the good, I have to share the bad & keep it real.  Kind of cloudy, kind of sunny, a few sprinkles here & there.  No big deal.  Let’s get our walk in.  We talked about doing it this morning & I really wanted to get some exercise in.

Kids figure out their bikes, who’s riding what.  We were off to a great start.  One little one too tuckered out. Grandma to the rescue.  That’s ok…let’s keep going.  Mags gets a little mad, so no big deal, I take her out of her stroller & walk taking turns with Carissa pushing the stroller.  Not quite half way around the section & the wind kicks up, need to turn back because it’s too windy for Maggie.  No big deal.  Get back to the corner and another tuckers out. I’m pushing a bike with Mags in my arms, Carissa is pushing a bike, & George is pushing the stroller.  Again…“What was I thinking?” No gator or ranger to hop in just in case someone got tired. No big boys to make it cool and fun. And no free hand to take pictures of the breakdowns.

Charlie is getting further & further behind.  We wait, he catches up. Cries, he’s tired (late night/early morning combo).  Says he’s never walking again.  “yes you are,” I say “now get moving & stop complaining.”  He cries. We keep walking, he gets behind again.  I turn around.  He is sitting on the ground shoes off crying.  I’m still pushing the bike with Mags in my arms.  Grandma to the rescue again.

Poor kiddos.  I wasn’t very “thankful”  & didn’t really have it in me to encourage him sweetly to keep going.  All I could think of was we still have A LONG WAY HOME!

After grandma rescues the last of the bike riders we get moving fast. We make it back to Carissa’s after going against the strong wind.  It starts sprinkling again & I still have quarter mile to go.  I guess I had my blinders on.  I really wanted to finish my walk.  Maggie’s back in the stroller & I’m walking pretty fast…still wondering what I was thinking.  Poor kids.  Then the sun starts coming out again as I’m walking back to grandma’s.  I was hoping to see a rainbow.  Kept looking & looking and started to think about rainbows & how truly magnificent they are.  God had  a purpose in sending a rainbow.  A promise.  Brought a smile to my face.  Amazing.  “Thank you Lord” I thought.

I finally made it back to Grandma’s (yes we all live very close, grandma’s is just across the street from my house.) I see all the kiddos that she had rescued.  Sitting in the driveway laughing, drinking pop & taking turns on a pogo stick. Another smile.   They were fine.  My heart was thankful.  Thanks Lord for the good & the bad.
